Identity Proofing refers to the process by which Exostar verifies the legitimacy of users’ digital identities. To complete a Live Video Proofing, your computer must be equipped with a webcam.
To ensure the success of your proofing session, complete the following pre-checks:
1. Have your Approved Documents ready.
2. Have a working Webcam or Smart Phone.
3. Have Microsoft Teams installed on your device.
At the end of a successful proofing session, the agent provides an activation code for your security credential.

Approved Documents

As of June 1, 2023, an individual will be required to present either:

  • 2 STRONG or SUPERIOR pieces of evidence; OR
  • 1 STRONG or SUPERIOR piece of evidence AND 2 FAIR pieces of evidence.

A notional list of qualifying documents can be found on the NIST website, and copied below, to provide examples of the types of documents that will be accepted by our proofers. This change will allow Exostar to meet the updated Identity Proofing requirements (IAL2) defined under NIST 800-63-3 and will be implemented for all individuals undergoing Remote Video Proofing for any Exostar solution.

Webcam Information

Nearly all modern laptop computers come with built-in webcams. If you aren’t sure whether your laptop has a built in webcam, speak to your IT Department or the manufacturer of the computer. Manufacturer websites contain any necessary documentation and drivers to get a built-in webcam up and running. Generally, we recommend any name-brand USB 2.0 webcam with autofocus capability, though 720p capability is also recommended. A webcam with a microphone is not required.

Newer mobile devices such as a 3rd generation or later iPad, iPhone 5, and many Android devices support the Microsoft Teams App, which can be downloaded from iTunes and the Google Play store. These devices may have sufficient front-facing camera quality to successfully complete the live video proofing if a more conventional webcam is not available to you. NOTE: If you choose to go this route, Exostar personnel cannot provide troubleshooting for your device. You can download the Microsoft Teams App by navigating to the below links:

To join the Teams meeting:

1. Open the Microsoft Teams App on your smart phone.
2. Click Join Meeting.
NOTE: The proofing agent will call you.
